Dr. Joan Roughgarden is a professor of Biological Sciences at Stanford University. She is an advocate for equality for gay, lesbian and transgender populations. Her passion stems from her own experience as a transgendered female seeking to identify the link between biology and the diversity of sexuality in humanity.

Dr. Roughgarden obtained her Ph.D. in Biology at Harvard in 1971 and has held professorship at Stanford since 1972, as a Professor of Biological Studies and Geophysics. She has numerous publications in circulation including Evolution's Rainbow: Diversity, Gender, and Sexuality in Nature and People, as well as her latest release, Evolution and Christianity: Reflections of an Evolutionary Biologist.
